About Us

The Papua New Guinea Judo Federation (PNG Judo Federation) is the national governing body for the sport of judo in PNG. It is affiliated with the Oceania Judo Union (OJU) and the International Judo Federation (IJF), which connects it to the global judo community. Domestically, it is recognised by the Papua New Guinea Olympic Committee (PNGOC) as one of its official National Federations, giving it authority to develop and oversee judo across the country.

The Federation focuses on developing judo at grassroots, provincial, and national levels. It organises competitions, coaching, and officiating programmes, and has received international support through initiatives such as Japan’s “Sports for Tomorrow” programme and grants for grassroots development. Efforts include expanding clubs across provinces, increasing awareness in schools, and preparing athletes for multi-sport events and international competitions.

Despite its achievements, the Federation faces challenges, including limited equipment, infrastructure, and geographic spread of active clubs. It continues to work on outreach, talent identification, and building capacity in coaching and officiating. Through its development programmes and affiliation with the IJF and OJU, PNG Judo Federation is steadily promoting judo as a competitive and accessible sport throughout the country.
